Digger Rams Bank In Raid
THE High Street in Princes Risborough has been blocked to traffic while police continue to investigate a ram raid at a local bank, where thieves used a digger to break in.
Residents in the High Street were awoken around 4am this morning by loud crashing sounds and breaking glass.
One witness, Denise Simmons, who lives above a near by shop, told ThameNews.Net:”I thought the noise was the brewery delivering barrels to the pub next door to us but my partner, Gary, thought it was too early in the morning for that. We then went to our front window and looked out and saw the digger, with its engine still running, and the damage it had done. We called the police straight away and they arrived within five minutes.
“I’s a shame we haven’t got CCTV in the town; we could certainly do with it. We have a lot of trouble with youngsters racing up and down the High Street at night and the police seem unable to do anything about it,” she added.
However, it is understood that Wainwright’s the shoe shop opposite the bank, do have a surveillance camera which has captured the digger on film, and the manager of the shop has handed it to the police.
A structural survey is currently being carried out of the bank building to establish how safe the building is.
