An archaeological investigation is to be carried out at the old Priest End Allotments site near St Mary’s church, Thame, in lieu of the land being taken over for additional burial space.

The two-week dig will begin on April 19, and carried out by Thames Valley Archaeological Services, who executed the initial evaluation and trial pits in November 2015 for the planning application submission by Thame Town Council. The costs for the work and for transforming the site into a burial ground is being provided from section 106 contributions from various developers of sites around the Thame, The Elms (£3,341), Site F (£18,335), Thame Service Station (£1,806) and Angus House (£2630.33) – a total of £26,000.
