Wilber Through To Folk Finals
THAME’S young folk phenomenon, Wilber Seers, has got through to the final six of this year’s Young Folk Awards after a very tough competition at the Semi-final Audition Concert in Stratford upon Avon on October 14.
Wilber will perform in the Final Concert on December 1, at Union Chapel, Islington, London where one of the six will be awarded the prestigious prize of BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Winner 2007. Highlights of the Final will be broadcast on the Mike Harding Show on Radio 2, on Wednesday 13 December 2006.
To reach the Final, these six acts spent the weekend along with the other Semi-finalists learning the tricks of the trade from professional artists Robert Harbron and Eliza Carthy. Entrants also had workshops in stagecraft, technical and legal issues in the music industry.
In the Audition Concert on Saturday night, the Semi-finalists performed in front of a crowd of over 300 where judges selected the six Finalists.
?This whole concert would not look out of place in a Festival programme. The standard of all the Semi-finalists was better than it has ever been? Steve Heap, Mrs Casey Music.
?All Semi-finalists should be extremely proud of their performance in the concert. The judges had a very hard job in deciding the final six acts,? said John Leonard, Smooth Operations.
