Thame Chamber Choir’s first concert under it’s new Musical Director, Duncan Aspden, is this weekend, March 10.
The main work is Rossini’s Petite Messe Solonnelle, with his Ave Maria arrangement as an opener. Rossini was responsible for The William Tell overture (known to enthusiasts as the theme music for The Lone Ranger!) as well as a number of operas; he was very successful as a young composer.

After a period of withdrawal around middle-age (no comment!) Rossini returned to composing, producing mainly arrangements of sacred texts – but didn’t give up the operatic style! For this reason, we are departing from our normal practice of drawing soloists from within our own ranks, and instead, have invited some student singers (approved by our new MD) to join us for the occasion.
