DESPITE the wet weather on Sunday, a group of Thame cyclists, including one celebrating her 50th birthday, cycled 100 miles to raise money for a re-cycling charity.
Cecilia Fry, from Thame, a keen cyclist and member of the Transport Working Group of 21st Century Thame Partnership, decided to celebrate her forthcoming 50th birthday, by organising a 100 mile bike ride – and she’s going to do it twice!
On Sunday, May 13, Cecilia was accompanied by Carol Furness from Morton, Bryony John, who used to live in Towersey, Cathy Gaulter Carter and two men who are on their way today, to France to tackle part of the more mountainous route of the Tour de France – Robin Aicheson and Harry Williams.
For the two men the ride was part of their training for this weekend’s big climb.

Cecilia told ThameNews.Net: “We had about three hours of pouring rain and for the rest of the 10 hours, it was either drizzle or light rain until the end when it finally cleared up.
“I must admit, we felt quite a feeling of achievement!”

The route taken by Cecilia and her friends went from Thame, over to Brill, taking a National Byway loop to
Buckingham, and back through Marsh Gibbon and then on to Winslow using Sustrans route 51. They had Lunch at Winslow (55 miles) then set off back to Quainton, a
loop round Quainton. Later on, they made a tea and cake stop in Westcott then headed back over Ashendon hill, through Dinton to Longwick and back to Thame via the Phoenix Trail.

For anyone interested in pedalling in the tyre treads of Cecilia and friends, she will be repeating the ride on Sunday, June 24, and is inviting anyone who would like to join in, to contact her via email: cecilia.fry@tiscali.co.uk.
Details about the charity she is raising money for can be found on: Link
