Food waste to be collected in new waste scheme
THAME residents will soon be able to re-cycle food and other kitchen waste, as well as glass from the kerbside, when a new waste collection scheme comes into operation in June.
South Oxfordshire District Council has joined forces with The Vale of White Horse to use the same Contractor for waste collection, which it is anticipated will save the two councils half a million pounds between them.
The collection of kitchen waste and glass will mean that 50% of the district’s waste will be recycled.
The new arrangements will see items for recycling collected once a fortnight in wheeled bins, and food waste from special 25 litre caddies collected weekly.
The new wheelie bins will be micro-chipped to help crews monitor progress on their rounds.
The current paid-in option for the collection of garden waste will continue after June.
