Frozen conditions on M40 cause havoc
MOTORISTS this morning (18.12.09) faced long delays on the M40 after a number of lorries jack-knifed across the road in freezing conditions after heavy snowfall over night.
Thames Valley police reported that four lorries had got into difficulty on the northbound carriageway, causing closures between junctions four and five.
One lorry travelling north went across into the southbound lane while another collided with a lamppost.
The Highways Agency reopened the M40 to traffic at 0950 GMT.
Thames Valley Police said that there were no reports of casualties.
