THE Sunday before Christmas saw much excitement amongst Towersey Morris side when they performed at the Mecca of English Folk dance and song, in Regents Park, London.

Writing in the Towersey news letter, Andy Hardy, Squire of Towersey Morris, takes up the story:

“A large mini bus collected us from Chinnor, Princes Risborough, Thame Haddenham and Aylesbury and drove us off through the snow towards Regents Park in London.

“We were to be guests (modesty forbids me to say stars) of a concert of Christmas carols and Customs, being held at Cecil Sharp House ~ head quarters of The English Folk Dance and Song Society. We danced
three dances, including our signature dance, Towersey fair, and performed our Mummers? Play which this year included Nick Griffin, Jordan and Tiger Woods alongside the usual characters such as Father Christmas, The Turkish Knight and Happy Jack.

2Over the Christmas period,” added Andy, “we have also been busy presenting the play at various pubs around
the area, although the inclement weather put paid to two tours. We have danced and performed at The three Horseshoes (Towersey) on Boxing Day and appeared at two separate ceilidhs in Haddenham.

“Since November we have welcomed three new members. It would be lovely if we could welcome even more ? especially if one of them lived in Towersey! We practise in The Village Hall on Monday evenings at nine o?clock.”
