SCHOOLS in Thame are having to bear the cost of drafting in supply staff as teachers and other staff members remain marooned all over the world in the volcanic ash travel chaos.

Eight members of staff, including three teachers, at Barley Hill School are stranded in Poland, USA, Dubai, Cyprus, Turkey and Tunisia. One of them has today contacted the Headteacher, John Hulett, to say that she has just landed back in England and hopes to be back in school tomorrow.

At Lord Williams’s school, 14 members of staff failed to return after the Easter break, but the school reports that they are beginning to gradually return to school.
