24/11/10….Student protest ‘counter-productive’ says Thame Head
THE Headteacher of a Thame school, from where around 200 students walked out this morning to protest against education cuts, has accused them of causing anxiety to staff and hurting the school as an institution.
Headteacher of Lord Williams’s school, David Wybron, told ThameNews.Net this afternoon: “They are mostly nice kids and we encourage them to be interested in politics but it is just too easy to ‘bunk off’ without thinking about the consequences.
“We are all concerned about the cuts but by disrupting lessons and causing worry to staff and parents, they have only hurt the school. There are more productive ways of making views known, writing to the MP or the papers for instance.”
“It was mentioned to me on Monday that they were going to do something and I made it clear that it was not something I could go along with and explained why.”
When asked if there would be any sanctions or consequences for the pupils’ actions, Mr Wybron said that he would be “having a chat” with them tomorrow.
