07/02/13….’Greedy, grabbing landlords’ ?

A Thame Town and District Councillor has accused Thame’s private property landlords of being greedy.

Cllr Mike Welply made his remarks during a discussion about South Oxfordshire District Council’s proposed changes to its Housing Allocations Policy, at Tuesday’s meeting of Thame Town Council’s Planning committee.

Cllr Welply told fellow councillors: “In the last two years the number of homeless people in the district has gone up dramatically and the situation is made worse by Thame landlords who are greedy, money-grabbing so-and-sos, who keep rents for their properties far too high.”

Cllr Welply added that he hoped that the planned changes to the allocations policy, to exclude from the waiting list people with no local connections, “will help provide more people with a decent place to live.”
