15/06/12….Young Thame musicians in National Festival of Music

TALENTED musicians from Oxfordshire, including two from Lord William’s school in Thame, will be showing off their skills at this year?s National Festival of Music for Youth.

James Cheung and Matthew Watson who are both members of the County Youth Orchestra, will be taking part in the festival which will be held in Birmingham from July 2-7, at venues including the city?s Symphony Hall.

Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra are regulars on the bill and will be appearing on Saturday July 7, with seven other nationally renowned youth orchestras selected from around the country. Last year they achieved an outstanding award and as a result were asked to play in the National Schools’ Prom in November at the Royal Albert hall, London.

Oxfordshire?s Youth Flute Choir will be joined by the Oxenford Yonge Minstrels (the early music group) and the Oxfordshire County Youth Orchestra for the festival.

They were selected to take part following the Regional Festival of Music for Youth in March, hosted by Oxfordshire County Council?s Music Service Centre for Music. There were 71 regional festivals in the UK.

The Youth Flute Choir and Oxenford Yonge Minstrels have been selected to play in the festival a number of times and will be performing on Tuesday, July 3.

County Councillor Melinda Tilley, Cabinet member for Education, said: ?We are thrilled that the groups from Oxfordshire will be representing the county yet again at this high-profile national event.

?We are extremely lucky to have so many talented young musicians in the county, performing to such a high standard in such a wide variety of musical styles. I wish them great success in July.?
