THAME Barns Centre has almost hit its target to provide a community defibrillator on site, after £440 was raised towards the piece of life-saving equipment at a coffee morning held there on Wednesday (04/09).

Following an incident at the Centre many years ago, Patsy Baker, one of the Centre Managers, was keen to get the first community defibrillator in Thame and so the Centre has been holding fund raising events since June.

Patsy told ThameNews: “Around 50 people attended and enjoyed delicious homemade cakes and coffee, Nic, a member of the ambulance service, came along with a demonstration model of a defibrillator for people to see how easy they are to use. With the generous donations from some local businesses and individuals, we nearly have enough funds raised.”

The defibrillator will be situated on the outside of the Barns Centre for anyone in the local area to use. If it should happen that someone’s heart stops in the vicinity, the emergency services would give instructions to anyone locally to collect the defibrillator which can be used whilst the ambulance is on its way.
