MEMBERS of the Thame and District Day Centre are learning about the wonders of the world wide web and gaming – thanks to donations and gifts from Thame organisations and residents.

The funds they have been given have enabled the centre to buy a laptop and a projector, a projector screen, a Wii console and DVD games.

The first of the games, demonstrated by Gill Coleman, the centre manager, was Blockbusters. Gill said: “We will have so much fun and it is all so interactive, everyone can join in.”

“We thought that perhaps our 80 to 90-year-olds would like to actually see what is meant by www,” she explained, after giving some of the day centre members a demonstration of what could be accessed on the web, including search engines.

“Members were fascinated by images – Frank Sinatra and Russell Watson singing on YouTube, for example, were a great hit! Then we showed them our own Facebook page, and demonstrated how ebay and Amazon work. I think there’ll be a new band of silver surfers in Thame. A massive thank you to everyone who has made this possible.”

Gill concluded: “Our members took a great deal of interest and thanked us for taking the time to explain the wonders of the World Wild Web. It was a very satisfying day.”
