OXFORDSHIRE County Council would like your views on its service change proposals for subsidised bus services and Dial-a-Ride. Services that may be affected include the Vale Travel services 120, 121, 123 and 124 between Thame and Risborough, and the Carousel Bus service 40, between Thame and High Wycombe.
This follows closely behind recent changes to services announced on June 1, after a previous public consultation.
The council needs to save more than £6 million on supported transport services and says that it can save money by running existing services more efficiently, but that this would not be enough. Savings will also have to come from reducing the current £4 million a year the council pays in bus subsidies and to run the Dial-a-Ride service.
You can read the proposals and respond online by visiting the OCC Consultation page. The Thame routes are on pages 2 and 8 of Annex X (the link to follow from the consultation page).
I’m 70 years old ( soon too old to drive) and thinking of moving to Chinnor. I won’t consider this if there are no buses as well as no rail services. I wouldn’t want to to isolated in such a small community.
This will affect house prices so why pay for council taxes for services you don’t get. This is a vicious downward spiral. What’s left!.
The bus services are vital for the communities of Thame, Chinnor & surrounding villages particularly for the young people, elderly & those who don’t drive. The bus service from Thame to Chinnor & to High Wycombe gives some independence to young people who like to go further afield to shop or go to the cinema or meet with friends.
This will make the vaunted “big society” a bit more constricted for non car owners who are disproportionately the young and the elderly. However not all gloom as David Cameron’s father-in-law still has 20,000 acres of Scottish island plus Oxfordshire farmland ( all subsidised) to play in.
Not all of us own a car. These services are a necessity to many ☹
The 40 bus for people who live in Chinnor is our only way to get to places like Thame and High Wycombe. We don’t have any other bus service, please don’t take it away. Many people rely on it, and for the elderly, teenagers and people who don’t have cars it is our only mode of transport. Don’t maroon us in Chinnor!
