THAME Bowls Club’S midweek Mixed team were involved in a very close game against Bassetsbury, winning on two of the four Rinks but losing overall by just three shots – 65 – 68.
Top Rink for Thame was that of Ian Rutherford, Simon Bell and skip Gerry Barry, who when leading 20 shots to 10 had to end their game at the request of the opposing Bassetsbury skip. Their next game bought success to the midweek squad reversing the recent poor result against Waddesdon, with a comprehensive 102 shots to 71 shots victory at Thame. Winning on four of the five Rinks, Thame’s top Rink was that of Peter Southam, Jonathan Dadson and skip Maxine Plested.
Thame Men’s league team suffered another defeat, this time at Adderbury. However, the highlight of the match was a ‘Hotshot’ (all 8 woods scoring) by the Thame Four of Les Canfield, Leonard Grimshaw, Casper DuPreez and skip Paul Heafey which helped them to be the only winning Rink out of the four for Thame on the night.
Thame’s Six Rinks return Mixed match at home against Desborough on Saturday, July 25, saw a reversal of the result of the recent match at Maidenhead where Thame lost on three Rinks. This time Thame won on five Rinks and won comfortably overall by 137 shots to 89. Top Rink for Thame was that of Jill Brooks, John Wheeler, Les Canfield and skip Graham Penn who won by 17 shots.
The six Rinks Mixed game at Hazells on Sunday, July 26, was curtailed by rain, but after bowling only eight ends, Thame were already leading by 19 shots overall so were heading for another successful outcome.
