Have Your Say On Policing
MEMBERS of the public are being encouraged to come and have their say at a community safety scrutiny committee meeting taking place at County Hall, Oxford next week. Sara Thornton, Acting Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police, will be at the meeting at 10am on Monday, February 6, at County Hall, New Road, Oxford. The aim of the meeting is to provide an overview of Thames Valley Police and its progress over the last three years in Oxfordshire. Sara Thornton will answer questions from the Committee and members of the public.
Thames Valley Police has published a new strategic plan outlining its long-term vision for the force. Service delivery is to be at its centre with the main focus on neighbourhood policing.
The new strategic plan is based around six objectives that aim to:
? Provide an effective, timely response focused on the needs of the citizen
? Conduct policing in a neighbourhood policing style
? Equip front-line staff to deliver Thames Valley Police objectives
? Improve performance and get better at what Thames Valley Police does
? Better protect the public from the risk posed by predatory offenders
? Be ready and equipped to deal with major crime and critical incidents
Sara Thornton said: “Thames Valley Police prides itself on its strong community links, which help us to identify the issues that matter to local people and work with our partners to deliver the best possible service.
“The public?s views really can make a difference to the way we police and I hope many local people will be able to come along.”
County Councillor, John Farrow, Chairman of the Community Safety Scrutiny Committee, said: “I would encourage people to come along to put their questions concerning the annual plan to Sara Thornton. This is an excellent opportunity for them to do so and we will welcome their views about community policing.”
