ANY residents who haven’t received their poll card to vote in the Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election on Thursday, May 5, need to contact the district council’s election team as soon as possible to make sure they can vote.
Contact the team on 01235 540351 or by email at elections@southandvale.gov.uk. Residents only have a week left to register to vote in the election and must get their application to the district council by Monday, April 18, at the latest, or visit gov.uk/register to register to vote.
The brief of police and crime commissioners is to ‘makes sure the policing needs of communities are met as effectively as possible, and to oversee how crime is tackled in your area’. A 10% portion of each residents’ council tax goes into Thames Valley Police’s budget, which the commissioner is in charge of, which is another good reason to get out and vote!
David Buckle, Chief Executive of South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils, said: “The quickest and easiest way to vote is to apply for a postal vote; it’s also ideal if you’ll be away on polling day. You’ll need to be quick though. The deadlines to register to vote and to apply for a postal vote are looming, so get in touch with the elections office as soon as possible.”
The deadline for applying for a postal or proxy vote is Tuesday, April 19, at 5pm. Thame residents can register at http://www.southoxon.gov.uk/
