LAST Wednesday, August 16, saw Chinnor Ladies FC kick off the inaugural ‘Charity Takes All’ Tournament, an 11-aside, three week long, pre-season competition, designed to help develop players, but also raise money for great causes.
Along side Chinnor Ladies FC, Oxford City Nomads (charity to be chosen), Aylesbury Ladies (playing for Florence Nightingale) and Flackwell Heath (playing for MS Unit at the Chilterns Hospital) played one another, to pick up points, with the eventual winner taking all entry fees to donate to their nominated charity. Chinnor, playing for the charity, Mind, picked up a 1-0 win against Aylesbury & Flackwell Heath, but lost 2-0 in their final game against a strong Oxford City.
Katie Wales, Coaching Officer for Chinnor FC, commented: “We’ve been looking at different ways to start pre-season and give the ladies a good run out, but helping the development of the players, involve other clubs in the same boat, and raise some money for charities in the area. Wednesday’s event was pulled together over the last fortnight, but we’ve seen around 60 players turn up and play some decent football.”
The tournament returns on August 23, with the final week being played on August 30. The winning charity stands to win £420.
