Thame Council To Consider Drinking Order Extension
THAME Town Council is to consider widening the area of its Designated Drinking Area Order, which currently gives extra powers to the police to control drinking in the open, within the town centre.
The Order was introduced in May, 2004, to tackle harrassment of passers-by and other anti-social behaviour associated with alcohol in and around the town centre.
Since its introduction, the Order has been successful in its aims but as consequence, has displaced some of the problem to Elms Park and the area around the Southern Road Recreation area. Elderly residents in Sharman Beer Court which overlooks the recreation ground have found it particularly upsetting to observe the drunken behaviour of those concerned.
The town council has already consulted with the district council, the police and some local people, and discuss the extention at it’s Policy and Resources committee meeting tomorrow (Tuesday, March 13).
