Thame fire up-date
AS the ‘cold snap’ continues, a Thame fire officer is warning residents about the dangers of old and damaged electric blankets, after a woman had a lucky escape from a burning bedroom, that began as she slept.
As soon as the resident of the flat above the clock shop ‘Rosemary and Time’ woke up to find her electric blanket smouldering, she immediately turned it off at the mains and tried to put the fire out with buckets of water. As the smouldering turned to a full-blown fire, she called the Emergency services who finally managed to put out the blaze working with hoses from the rear of the property and from the roof at the front.
Thame’s Station Officer, Andy Ford, told ThameNews.Net: “This lady was very lucky to wake up when she did as there does not appear to have been a smoke alarm. It just goes to show how important it is to get alectric blankets tested regularly by Trading Standards Officers who offer regular, free checks. Old or damaged electric blankets that may have been folded up for long periods and then taken out in cold weather, pose a serious risk.”
