Annual Founders Day at Lord Williams’s School
THE annual Founders Day at Lord Williams School this year saw the re-introduction of Hockey on to the time table for the first time in a number of years with an Old Tamensian?s team, organized by the Wynd brothers, taking on The school 1st XI.
The Old Tamensian?s were the eventual winners 4-3, in a tightly contested match.
The Netball was another close one, with the School taking the honours against the OT?s 13 ? 8; thanks again to Chris Daplyn for umpiring and organizing the fixture.
It was marvelous to see such support for both the Netball and the Hockey, both making excellent use of the schools recent addition, The Astro Turf pitch.
Long gone are the days when the Schools 1st XV were pitted against the teachers in the annual rugby event. The laws are such that now this fixture is organised as a pure OT?s event with the Under 23 OT?s, captained by Ian Stock, taking on Richard Warner?s Over 23 OT?s. This game too was tightly contested with the Over 23?s showing their experience by being superbly organized against the fresher Under 23?s. Fitness told with the Under 23?s taking their conversions to run out 14 ? 10 winners, with scores coming fro0m Mike Bailey, Ryan Binnee & Tom Curry. Marcus Stevens took the man of the match award for the Under 23?s.
David Ratcliffe, Sports Secretary of the Old Tamensians Asscoiation, commented: “Huge thanks go to Ian Stock and Richard Warner for organizing the teams, never an easy task. Special mention too is due to Sam Ludgate and Joe Pickett for hot footing it back from Richmond to take the field.”
Next year, 2009, marks a special year both the Old Tamensians and the school which will mark it?s 450th anniversary and Old Tamensians it?s 100th. If you are an OT, please keep an eye out for a range of events organized throughout the year or visit: old Thamensians’ website
