IN a special operation in response to local concerns, police issued several fixed penalty notices for speeding in Thame recently.

The Thame neighbourhood policing team carried out the operation in response to local concerns to tackle road safety in the area last week.

The operation last Thursday, 16/07/09, took place on the Oxford Road in Thame just past Lord Williams Upper School, a perceived speeding hotspot. This operation targeted motorists who were speeding, using mobile phones and not wearing seat belts and was run by the neighbourhood policing team.

Eleven Fixed Penalty Notices were issued, 10 for speeding and one for using a mobile phone whilst driving.

Neighbourhood Specialist Officer for Thame, PC Russell Hounslow, said: “I am disappointed at the relatively high level of speeding vehicles at this location especially as there is already a speed enforcement camera near this site.

“Speeding in a built up area is not only dangerous to the driver but also to other drivers and pedestrians. We will continue to respond to the needs of residents and will be carrying out more enforcement operations in the near future.”
