MP pulls the first Thame brewed pint for generations
THE Mayor of Thame and BBC Radio celebrity, Ken Bruce, were among the crowds of locals – and real ale enthusiasts from as far away as Oxford, who witnessed the pulling of the first pint of Thame-brewed beer for probably a century.
The man with his hands on the pump for this momentous occassion at The Cross Keys pub in Park Street, Thame, was the town’s MP, John Howell.
It was standing room only by 12.30pm on Saturday (14/11/09), half an hour before landlord, Peter Lambert officially announced that Mrs Tipple?s Ghost, a medium bitter beer, named after a former
landlady who ran the pub in the 1950s, would be on sale.
Ken Bruce, who lives at Towersey, and a man who himself knows a good pint when he tastes one (as rumour has it anyway), drank the first pint, and the Mayor herself, Jeannette Matelot Green (more an aficionado of the grape than the hop (as rumour has it 🙂 imbibed of the second pint of amber liquid.
The general concensus seemed to be that Mrs Tipple’s Ghost is indeed a fine brew of great character, and a very commendable effort for a first time brewer.
