SATURDAY night saw The Spread Eagle Hotel, Thame, transformed into what looked like an episode of Good Night Sweetheart, when the town celebrated to 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain with a Hangar Dance.

“The evening was a great success,” said Cllr Nigel Champken-Woods, one of the organisers. “The Ballroom at the spread looked superb with RAF Ensign, Union Flag, Parachute and an airfield scene as the backdrop for the evening. The ?Big Band? Sound Force were really good especially when the came back after a break dressed in uniform.

“The vignettes of the stories of a WAAF Controller, a member of the Ground crew, the Pilot and finally Winston?s ?Never in the field of Human Conflict? speech were very poignant and well received.

“Many of those attending dressed for the occasion some in uniforms, some of the ladies were especially good with period hairstyles the lot, however there were quite a few spivs doing deals in corners!

“We have not finished the maths yet,” he concluded, “but it looks like we will be able to present the RAF Benevolent Fund with a cheque for about
