23/03/11….Re-routed 280 bus blamed for boy’s collision with car
A Head teacher has blamed the re-routing of the Arriva 280 bus past her school, for an accident this morning involving a child.
Just before 9AM this morning, a boy from Haddenham Community Junior school in Woodways, Haddenham, near Thame, was hit by a car after getting off a bus and crossing the road to the school.
The Headteacher, Sue Roberts told ThameNews.Net: “When Arriva announced it was re-routing the 280 bus along Woodways, passing this school, it was pointed out to them that the decision would create an accident waiting to happen. Well, this morning, that accident happened.
“Luckily, because of the speed bumps the driver involved was travelling slowly and the injured boy only sustained bruising to his legs, but it could have been a lot worse.
“I shall be writing to Arriva suggesting that they now reconsider the route and at the very least, pay for two Zebra crossings between the two schools in Woodways and Churchway.”
The school’s Lollypop lady retired in February and has not yet been replaced.
