THAME’S Oxfam Book shop is celebrating the third anniversary of the Oxfam ?Tag your Bag? Gift Aid scheme, the proceeds from which have raised enough money for 21 water tanks and 1000 buckets for the third world.

Gift Aid for donations of stock

The shop’s manager, Dick Jennens, told ThameNews.Net: “Since we launched this scheme in March 2009, this shop has signed up over 4000 donors. [Thame population circa 12K]

“We wish to say a very big THANK YOU to our donors, especially those who, when they donated stock, took a couple of minutes of their time to fill in a form and make their donation even more valuable and makes such a difference.

“Over the three years of this scheme the Oxfam Bookshop in Thame has raised extra funds – the equivalent of the cost to Oxfam of providing 21 **Water tanks and 1000 buckets. Just what you need in drought or famine struck areas like the Horn of Africa or following an earthquake, like the one that struck Haiti.

“If you have to get your water from a Water tank
you need a bucket to carry it home!” added Dick.

“So, a simple but heartfelt ‘THANK YOU’ for taking the time to sign up and to make a difference!”

** These are big tanks, transportable and able to be set up in three hours. They will hold around 90,000 litres of safe drinking water for hundreds of families.

For flood survivors in Niger, a tank is the difference between life and death.

When you live in a place like Niamey, a flood can spell disaster. Homes are reduced to rubble, crops quickly destroyed. In a flash, everything you?ve worked for is gone.
T
he terrific transportable Oxfam tank can be set up in under three hours near community buildings like schools, where people seek shelter. It holds up to 90,000 litres of safe, clean drinking water. For local people it means survival, Nothing less.

Your generosity and Gift Aid makes a difference!
