10/11/12….Children to celebrate sport in song
CHILDREN from four local primary schools will be performing a specially composed piece for Children’s voices and brass quintet, under the baton of the Musical Director of the distinguished Chamber Choir, Oxford Pro Musica Singers, Michael Smedley.
Called ‘A Sporting Chance,’ the piece the children will sing – dressed appropriately in sporting outfits – is by the famous local composer Bob Chilcott. Each movement features a different sport such as football, ice-skating, weight-lifting and tennis.
The four local schools contributing to the children’s choir are John Hampden Primary and St. Joseph’s RC Schools, Thame, and Aston Rowant C of E and Great Missenden C of E schools.
Also on the programme, Oxford Pro Musica Singers will perform the world premiere of Malcolm Pearce’s Terpsichoreana, a five movement piece based on different dance forms such as Samba and Polka. The piece is written in memory of the county?s premier trombonist and teacher, Robert Stevens, who died in November 2009, and who was a ballroom dancer in his spare time!
A Sporting Chance and Terpsichoreana will be performed at Thame Leisure Centre on November 10, at 7pm.
