1. Brushing wet hair
Wet hair will stretch up to a third of its own length which can cause damage. Using the right brush will minimise any damage.
Always use a wide-tooth comb or a special feta fling brush on wet hair. Never use a bristle brush on wet hair.
2. Hairband no-no on wet hair
Never use a tight hairband or metal clip on wet hair. For the same reason as above.
Hair can get trapped or tangled, stretch and become damaged. Use a looser hairband with no metal when tying your wet hair.
3. Heat protection is a must
Always use heat protection when drying and/or straightening your hair. Heat protection acts as a barrier between the heat source and your hair. This helps to reduce damage. The barrier created by the heat protection will also help to seal in moisture and fend off the frizz.
4. Longer hair care
If you have shoulder-length hair, or longer, the best brush to use is a paddle brush which has a large surface area. A paddle brush will also help to penetrate denser hair and remove tangles.
5. Serum is your friend
Apply a small amount of serum to long hair to help tame frizz, increase shine and enhance the natural texture of your hair. You can get different serums for different hair types such as dry or curly hair.
6. Maintenance
Your hair grows around 1cm a month. To keep your hairstyle looking tip-top and the ends of your hair tidy, it’s recommended to have your hair cut every 8-10 weeks.
7. Brush from tips to roots
To avoid massive tangles, always brush your hair from the ends and work up towards the roots. This will help tackle tangles far more effectively and cause less damage to your hair.
8. Drying for volume
To pump up the volume you should dry your hair from the roots and work towards the ends.
9. Shampoo twice
Ever wondered why the hairdresser washes your hair with shampoo twice? It was nothing personal. It’s actually recommended to shampoo your hair twice – once to cleanse the scalp and the second time to cleanse the hair.
10. Treating issues
Shampoos can be used to remedy issues with your scalp. Conditioners can be used to support the health of your hair.
