We’d like to announce the start of the weekly meetings of Andy’s Man Club in Thame. A fantastic charity bringing people together and encouraging men to talk, have a place where they should be able to feel safe and be able to open up as much or as little as they’d like to. Just knowing there are people there or sharing similar thoughts, feelings and situations can make a whole world of difference and hopefully save some lives.
Andy’s Man Club takes its name from the young man, Andrew Roberts, who sadly took his own life at the age of 23 in early 2016. Andy’s family were unaware of how much he was struggling/suffering and would like to try and prevent other families and friends from going through what they have and will continue to go through.
This is when they set up Andy’s Man Club; a group where men aged 18 and above can speak openly about their mental health in a judgement-free, non-clinical environment.
It started in mid-2016, nine men met in a small room in the Yorkshire town of Halifax, with a simple aim of talking through their issues and helping each other deal with the struggles in their lives. All in attendance agreed there was magic in that room that had to be shared.
This was the start of a movement that has grown faster than anyone first involved could have ever imagined.
Fast forward almost 7 years and Andy’s Man Club now has groups at over 120 locations across England, Scotland and Wales.
Andy’s Man Club is a free-to-attend talking group that runs every Monday night at 7pm excluding bank holidays.
Groups now operate nationwide and are completely volunteer-led, with all group facilitators having first interacted when they came through the door as a service user.
With their service used on a weekly basis by over 2,600 men, and an army of over 700 volunteers on board, the movement is continuing to grow on a weekly basis.
