Movement helps your physical and mental well-being; that’s no secret. But sometimes, the appeal of exercise just isn’t there. Sometimes the draw of crashing on the sofa and binge-watching your favourite TV show can have more appeal (and that’s totally okay some days). Lack of movement over time is the issue. Your body is designed to move, and when it doesn’t, it can become weaker and stiffer. Not to mention your motivation to get moving again can fade away into oblivion.

What if moving was more fun?

Exercising in a fun and friendly environment can give it a fair shot versus a session on the sofa with the remote control. Meeting friendly people and having a space to move without feeling self-conscious can raise the enjoyment level considerably. You can start looking forward to getting moving and kickstart your motivation again.

Local mum of toddler twins, Holly Morland, has created a more fun way to get moving. Holly brings her own personal shine along with decades of experience to launch Shine Dance and Pilates.

Shine Dance and Pilates provide fun and accessible sessions in Thame, Chinnor and Kingston Blount. Pilates for all abilities and dance designed specifically for over 50s.

Pilates, where everyone is welcome

Pilates is a great low-impact exercise that helps to strengthen your core, and improve your flexibility and balance. Holly’s Pilates classes are designed to include every one of any ability. You don’t need to be able to stick your leg behind your head to make the most of these sessions – although well done if you are that flexible!

Whatever your ability, you will benefit from the Pilates sessions from Shine Dance and Pilates. Try a taster session – get moving, meet great people and feel included.

Dance fitness for over 50s

Dancing to the sound of your favourite beats is a good way to get the blood pumping around your body, and it’s certainly fun! Dance, like Pilates, also helps you improve coordination, balance and core strength. Plus burn a few extra calories and get your happy hormones pumping. But finding the right class can impact how enjoyable dance can be.

Dance for over 50’s – Dance the Decades – is a dance class designed specifically for the over 50s. Keeping moving as we age is super-important to maintaining the best health we can. And it’s not just your body that benefits. A 2003 study in the New England Journal of Medicine by researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine discovered that dance can decidedly improve brain health.

So get dancing!
