The Thame 10k road run is being held on Sunday 25th June this year, and there’s a fun new event for under 14s – the colour run! The colour run is being organised by Thames Valley Air Ambulance. See below for more details.

The event often attracts runners from miles around due to the beautiful route running through Thame. It’s also a great opportunity to raise money for charity. Over £80,000 has been raised for charity to date, although I’m sure that’s much higher now.

The additional event – the colour run for under 14s – will start once the Thame 10k road runners have left.

Charity colour run for under 14s

Entry is £10 and all entrants will receive a plain white t-shirt, sunglasses and a medal at the end of the race. Anyone under 14 can enter and under 6s can take an accompanying adult. There’s no sponsorship target for this new event, but the more raised the better! Find out more on the Thames Valley  Ambulance website and see how to enter.

The Thame 10k history

The Thame 10k starts as part of the ‘Festival of Sport’ (FoS) which used to be held in Thame once a year but stopped some time before 1983. The Festival included cricket matches, trampolining, tug of war (local pub teams), a squash tournament, a netball tournament and much more. I’ve been trying to find out more information but there doesn’t seem to be much out there. Can you help fill in the gaps?

When the FoS stopped running, a one-off running event was organised which was then taken on by Thame Runners who formed in 1983 (happy 40th birthday).

Thame 10k 2023 FAQs

Thank you to Reg who is the treasurer and entries secretary. Reg helped fill in the gaps for our FAQ.

What time does the Thame 10k start?

The race will be starting at the earlier time of 9am this year.

What’s the route for the Thame 10k?

Start: Lord Williams Upper School

Oxford Road

High Street

Left at the Cross Keys

Kings/Queens Road and Towersey road

Does this mean roads will be closed?

Not at all. It is advised to avoid Oxford Road between 9 and 9:20 am on 23rd  June,  as there will be a temporary road closure but the impact on local motoring is minimal. Notice of special event and road closures https://www.oxfordshire.gov.uk/business/licences-and-permits/licences-and-permits/upcoming-public-events/thame-10k-road-race

How many people take part in the Thame 10k?

Due to insurance reasons and to keep the race within the town, the maximum number of people allowed to compete is 1000 – which is usually reached!
