THE ROTARY CLUB OF THAME

Rotary is a worldwide organisation of men and women whose objectives are to provide humanitarian assistance, adhere to high ethical standards and help to build goodwill and peace in the world.

In addition to this worldwide commitment, The Rotary Club of Thame is involved in fundraising and support for good causes in the local
community, and last year we donated over £2,500 to local charities.

Our local emphasis is on fellowship, fun and friendship with a diverse social programme.

If you are interested in learning more about the Rotary movement, or wish to consider joining us, please visit our web site and send us an email.

The Club derives its name from the “witchert” walls for which the local area is famous. These wattle and daub constructions are built on a stone base, the “grumpling” and were originally thatched to prevent rain washing them away. Nowadays they are usually tiled.

Meetings are held at The Seven Stars, Dinton, every Monday at 7:45 for 8pm (except Bank Holidays)

For further information, phone 0184 4 291426 or email hamishbell@iee.org.uk

Rotary combines Fellowship with the opportunity for Service within the community.

Thame Choral Society

We are a friendly, medium-sized choir that rehearses at 7.30-9.30pm on Wednesdays at Haddenham Methodist Church

No Auditions – We perform in two main concerts each year. For more information: Visit our website: http://www.thamechoralsociety.org.uk/

Thame Cycling Club

Thame Cycling Club is a small, friendly club affiliated to British Cycling and organised to enable members to enjoy social bike rides from Thame on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday mornings. While brisk, the pace is set so that even a new rider with a good level of general fitness can enjoy it. We do not leave less fit riders on their own.

Rides on Saturdays are around 40 miles and on Sundays, 50 miles with a cafe stop both days. Should this be too far for new riders, someone will accompany them on a shorter route to and from the cafe.

To provide a change during the winter months, we also organise training sessions at Calshot velodrome which prove popular, even addictive, and do much to improve riding skills.

We welcome new members and have several years’ experience of introducing novice riders to what is a technically demanding sport. New riders will learn how to ride safely in a group with such advice as is needed, provided informally before and during the ride. This non-patronising advice has proved especially popular with women who so often get a poor deal in sport.

You will need a road bike. If you do not have one you are welcome to ask us for advice before choosing from a bewildering large range.

For cyclists wishing to move on to competition, we can offer advice on how to proceed to time-trialling, road-racing or track.

To join us please contact alasdair@macvarish.co.uk for further information. There is no requirement to become a member in advance of a few introductory rides.
